New Feature Film "Tru Loved" to Premier with a Family-Friendly Tale of LGBT Youth

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The film “Tru Loved” – which tells a poignant tale about gay and lesbian teen-agers dealing with parents and high-school friendships as well as their own hopes and fears -- will premier at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 11 at the Regent Showcase Theater, 614 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles.

The film conveys a positive image of gays, lesbians and gay-straight friendships, and fosters understanding of the real-life issues that LGBT youth and their families face.

“Tru Loved” was written and directed by Steward Wade, and was produced by Antonio Brown of BrownBag Productions. The film stars Najarra Townsend, Jake Abel, Alec Mapa, Bruce Vilanch, Nichelle Nichols, Jasmine Guy, Alexandra Paul, Cynda Williams, Matthew Thompson and Jane Lynch.

Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura on the original “Star Trek” television series, received the Liberty and Justice Award from the ACLU of Southern California on the closing night of this year's Outfest 2008 in July. For a video of Nichelle Nichols talking about the ACLU and “Tru Loved,” click here.

Following the premier of “Tru Loved” in Los Angeles on Saturday – National Coming Out Day – the film will premier in New York and Chicago on October 17. It will open in Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and Berkeley on October 24 and 31.
