Bush Legal Counsel Admits Spying Program Illegal
Taking the stand today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, former DOJ Office of Legal Counsel attorney Jack Goldsmith admitted that the Bush Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program was a “legal mess” and there were certain aspects he could not find legal support for.
Goldsmith went on to say the White House’s own secrecy about the program led to problems. “There’s no doubt the extreme secrecy not getting feedback from experts, not showing it to experts led to a lot of mistakes,” he said.

Goldsmith’s current employer, Harvard Law, has a different take.
