JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps)

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is a U.S. military-run program for high school students. JROTC is taught by retired military personnel and involves classroom work from a military curriculum. Although students who participate in JROTC may wear military uniforms, they are not in the military.

Your school cannot force you to take JROTC classes. These classes are strictly voluntary. If you choose to join the JROTC, you do not have to further your commitment or feel pressured to join the military.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Test

The ASVAB test is a voluntary test that the U.S. Department of Defense uses primarily as a military recruiting tool to test potential recruits to determine their developed abilities (what they already know about certain subjects), to measure their general learning ability and vocational skills and to predict performance in certain academic areas.

Your school cannot force you to take the ASVAB test. This test is strictly voluntary. If you do choose to take it, you can choose whether or not to send your scores to the military.
