Volunteer with the ACLU/SC Jails Project
Our presence in the jails is important because we provide oversight and demand accountability from the Sheriff’s Department. We help improve conditions, help individual inmates, and advocate for systemic change. Positive changes benefit inmates, deputies and other jail staff, and the general public.
Volunteers are always needed. If you would like more information about volunteering with the Jails Project, sign-up through our online form.
Jails Task Force
Through the Jails Task Force, a broad coalition interested in the state of our county jails, you can help, and make your voice heard.

“I started volunteering for the Jails Project as a summer job, and I’ve
remained for 2 1/2 years because I feel what I’m doing is
important. When visiting the jails, I realize people are in need of someone on the outside to advocate for them and secure the rights that I take for granted everyday.”
