Attend Our "Politics and the Pulpit" Workshops in September

Politics and the Pulpit: Free speech, advocacy and the IRS
Unsure about what issues clergy and lay leaders can address, and should avoid, during campaign season? This guide through basic tax rules affecting charitable organizations will help persons of faith follow both their conscience and the law. Workshop topics include:
- Guidelines for speaking about political candidates
- Lobbying within the rules
- General advocacy
- Potential IRS penalties should a violation bring enforcement
- Overview of published guidelines provided by the IRS and nonprofit organizations
The workshops feature David Ritchie, Tax Attorney, Paul Hastings, LLP and Isabelle Gunning, past president, ACLU of Southern California. Three events will be held for religious and nonprofit organizations:

- Sept. 18 * Noon- 1:30 p.m. * Christ Our Redeemer AME Church * 46 Maxwell St., Irvine
- Sept. 25 * 7-9 p.m. * All Saints Episcopal Church * 132 N. Euclid Ave., Pasadena (Co-sponsored by the Interfaith Alliance)
