Call Senator Feinstein to Support Patriot Act Reform
Launched: September 25, 2009
This Action Expired: October 25, 2009
Description:
In September 2009, Senator Feingold introduced the Justice Act (S. 1686), which presents us with the first real opportunity to reform the PATRIOT Act and other surveillance powers rammed through Congress by the Bush Administration following 9/11. Feingold’s bill would protect the constitutional rights of Americans while ensuring the government has the powers it needs to fight terrorism and collect intelligence. The bill is currently in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and as a member of that committee, Senator Feinstein has the chance to show leadership in protecting innocent Americans from overreaching surveillance laws.
Dianne Feinstein Needs to Hear From You Today
Please call and urge her to support the bill and leave in the protections that would guard Americans from unnecessary government intrusion. The numbers for her offices are:
Los Angeles: (310) 914-7300
Washington D.C.: (202) 224-3841
Here is a sample of what to say:
Hello, my name is (NAME) and I am a resident of California. I’m calling to urge you to support the JUSTICE Act, recently introduced in the Senate. It's absolutely crucial that the legislation that emerges from the Judiciary Committee embraces the strong measures Senator Feingold has put forth, such as protecting privacy of communications by amending last year's sweeping FISA Amendments Act to better protect Americans' phone calls and emails. The JUSTICE Act keeps us safe and protects our freedom at the same time.
