Help End Disparity in Crack Cocaine Sentencing
Launched: February 24, 2009
This Action Expired: September 26, 2009
Description:
Under current law, possession of only five grams of crack cocaine triggers the same mandatory sentence as possession of 500 grams of powder cocaine. But over the past 15 years, all myths justifying heightened penalties for crack have been debunked. The only real difference: strong racial disparities in crack- and powder-cocaine usage patterns that have led to harsher sentencing for African Americans.
This unjust and unsupported approach must stop. Take Action now and join the loud message sent to Congress: End the crack cocaine sentencing disparity.
