Support Second Chances for Youth Offenders
Launched: February 22, 2009
This Action Expired: June 30, 2009
Updates:
Thanks to your support, the Senate Appropriations Committee and full California Senate passed SB 399. The bill now moves on to the Assembly for consideration.
Description:
Speak up right now and let our leaders know you want fair dealings for imprisoned youth.
A young person should not be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Doing so is cruel, unjust and heartlessly assumes no one ever has the potential for redemption.
The Fair Sentencing For Youth Act, SB 399 would provide review and the opportunity for resentencing of all youth offenders serving life sentences who were under the age of 18 at the time of their crime.
81% of West Coast residents believe that young people have the capacity to be redeemed. You're one of them. Act now. Urge the State Assembly to pass the Fair Sentencing For Youth Act!
