
Jason Howe has been director of communications for the ACLU of Southern California since May of 2011. He oversees media relations strategies, web and social media content and writes much of what goes into ACLU publications.
Prior to coming to the ACLU, Jason coordinated media relations in 18 western and southwestern states for Lambda Legal. He spent two decades in television news as a reporter, writer and producer, covering stories including Hurricane Katrina, Sierra forest fires, and the Vermont Supreme Court decision that led to the country’s first civil unions.
Jason graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and linguistics. He speaks fluent Spanish, passable Hebrew, and Catalan.



There are many who seek to consolidate their power at the expense of others, and the ACLU helps balance the scales by defending justice, freedom and fairness.
