Legal Intake Department
The ACLU Foundation of Southern California is accepting applications for Legal Intake internships and volunteer positions. Legal Intake opportunities are open to undergraduates, recent graduates, law students, and volunteers.
Intake interns and volunteers pre-screen written and telephone requests for legal assistance and make an initial determination of whether the request falls within the ACLU's guidelines. Primarily, interns and volunteers conduct pre-screening interviews on the telephone.
Legal intake is overseen by an Intake Coordinator, and is supervised by an attorney. No legal advice is given through intake, but appropriate cases are referred to the supervisor for review and possible action by the ACLU legal staff. Cases not within the ACLU's guidelines are referred to other non-profit agencies for possible help.
Interns and volunteers receive hands-on training and an extensive procedure manual.
Students: Please let us know if your school grants credit for your internship.
Hours
Intake operates five days a week during normal business hours, and interns and volunteers may work morning or afternoon shifts. Interns and volunteers are required to make a 3 month commitment.
