Union Board Votes For Impeachment
On Nov. 14, the ACLU of Southern California Board of Directors voted to call for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney. The board's vote (40-0, with 1 abstention) passed the policy in principle. The board will issue a report shortly.
This action is not without precedent. In May, the ACLU/SC became the first affiliate in the nation to issue a public resolution denouncing the war in Iraq. The ACLU/SC was also proactive in calling for an end to the Vietnam War and the impeachment of Richard Nixon during the 1970s.
The board's executive committee is currently working on a full report of its action for distribution to the membership.
